VIB SALE - 2018

f you’ve been kicking around for a while you’ve seen me try and muddle my way through the beauty world and try to keep up with latest trends and products.

I recently decided to call on some expert advice from my friend Mylynn who is a freelance makeup artist for her insight and her favourite go to’s I thought now we be as good as time as any considering we are heading into spring (hopefully) and the Sephora VIB sale is rapidly approaching!! Hooray for a second Christmas!

If you aren’t yet a member it’s free to join!

Anyways I have broken it down into segments to keep it easily organized along with some pro-tips.

Skincare:

During our chat we discussed how people’s skin types can be so different and how not all products are made equal, so Mylynn curated a few items that will be suitable for most if not all skin types.

The majority of the list is found in skincare because it tends to be the pricier items which means you get the best deal when VIB sale comes around.

DEAL STEAL:

  • First Aid Beauty Pads, 60pads, originally $37 CAN. This is designed to be used daily and works the same way as an exfoliant just more gentle, it helps to keep the face look fresh and bright.

  • Amorepacific Treatment Enzyme Peel, originally $66 CAN. Although this bottle may seem costly you end up getting almost double the use out of it compared to a pump product because there is no water pre mixed, you simple need a small dose of powder (about the size of a finger nail) and then mix it with tap water, this will cause the chemical reaction to exfoliate.

  • Peter Thomas Roth hyaluronic cloud hydra-gel eye patches, 60 pads , originally $64 CAN, this again is great for all skin types who need that extra boost of hydration and brightness. Although it may seem a bit expensive at the start when you break it down it’s approximately $2 a mask. PRO TIP: Keep eye masks in the fridge, chilly masks help with minimizing puffiness and promoting blood flow.

WORTH THE SPLURGE:

  • For my more oily skin babes Mylynn suggests ExfoliKate intense exfoliater, this is originally $102 CAN, 2oz, and it definitely does its job, because it is so intense it may just add to the dryness if used on already dry skin. In addition to exfoliation ExfoliKate has the three magic P’s, pinapple, pumpkin and papaya. These fruit enzymes help brighten up and smooth over the skin. PRO TIP: for dryer skin, use as a mask, instead of rubbing it into the skin, let it rest for a few minutes then gently wash it off.

  • If ExfoliKate doesn’t take your fit your criteria try using Fresh’s Rose Face Mask, this was a personal recommendation from Mylynn as my skin is SUPER DRY! This is originally $75 CAN for 3.3 oz.

  • Next is Protini Polypeptide Cream from Drunk Elephant originally for $84 for 1.69 oz. From what it sounds like this is magic in a bottle, when Mylynn was describing all its features it made me add it to my wish list, this guy is great for textured and dry skin not to mention elasticity, literally a spring in a bottle for your face!

  • Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo originally $110. I wasn’t sure whether to put this under deals or splurge because it’s a mix of both. It is a higher price point but you also get both items to complete your skincare routine. One thing Mylynn says she sees often is clients focusing on one problematic area and neglecting the rest, this kit helps to remind you that every part needs love. Good genes is your exfoliator while Luna Sleeping Oil re-moisturizers, in other words if you have textured or dry skin this is your fast forward button to better skin days.

PRO TIP: Lactic Acid = Exfoliates.

  • Fresh’s Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence. Originally $85, new to the shelves this is definitely worth a try! The most exciting thing about this new product is that there are not many products that have essence in them and this helps with, anti - pollution, antioxidant protection, brightness and helps decrease the looks of wrinkles, fine lines and pores. This go on after toner before moisturizer. PRO TIP: if you’re ever un-sure of application method always go thinner to thicker in texture. (I had to ask because I always get confused about oils, toners and moisturizers).

MYTH BUSTER:

You can’t actually decrease the size of your pores only the appearance, best advice Mylynn has is stop buying high street rip strips because A) nothing that should be helping should hurt it. B) The strips only clear deeper which pulls new cells as well as old so that only leaves more room for dirt to get in only a couple days later. C) You’ll end up spending just as much money over time.

Get Lippie :

  • While your skin is resting easy so should your lips the top 2 lip masks Mylynn suggests are Neige Sleeping Lip Mask at $24 for 20g, and Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask at $30 for 15g. Both are great, if you prefer a more gritty texture go with the Bite Beauty, it also comes in 4 other types. Neige is designed to be put on right before bed so it has all night to work it’s magic.

FUN FACT: All of Bite beauty’s products are made with food grade ingredients.

  • Recommended Pick from Mylynn that she said is totally worth the splurge are then Tom Ford lipsticks, in particular the shade sable smoke.

  • One pick that seems to be a very popular vote is the Kat Von D liquid lippies, on my wishlist I’ve got the shades Bow n’ Arrow, Ludwig and Lovecraft.

Makeup Wishlist:

Fragrance: I usually stock up on perfume this time of year, the March VIB sale is for spring scents and November for winter scents. This year I’m looking at Mui Mui Bleu or Rosé, Replacement for Burberry Pink and Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay.

Investment: if you have the money to spend the Dyson Hair Dryer is worth the investment from both Hairstylists and Beauty Gurus. It’s lightweight due to the engineering of the dryer and the ring design means no more hair getting caught and proper heat control means no heat protectant needed. Magnetic interchangeable heads gives no room for expansion and cracking due to heat flow.

I know this is a long winded post but you made it!! Thanks for reading and hopefully some of these tips help.

Special shoutout to Mylynn for curating the list and chatting through the products. Check out her skill out on social media, and give her some love x.

Big Love, thebrokeblonde xo
