What I Read - July
I need to start with a disclaimer, I did not “read” any of these books, I listened to Reputations, How Are You Really and Find Your People on Audible, and Summer I Turned Pretty I’ve read a few times over the past decade.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is now available as a film on Prime Video, start your Free Trial Today. It made me want to pull it out of my bookshelf and dust it off. The trilogy is a great light summer read with the perfect mix of drama, love triangles, and secret crushes. If you’re looking for further drama I would highly suggest listening to or reading Reputation by Sarah Vaughan, she is also the author of Anatomy of Scandal which is now available on Netflix, featuring Michelle Docherty and Sienna Miller. If you do decide to listen to Reputation I would suggest headphones as the content is designed for a mature audience. The one thing I like about Vaughan’s character developments is that you’re never fully convinced who is the “bad” and “good”, instead, all of the characters are on the fence, and while you believe to think of them in a certain way she does allow your mind to wander. Definitely worth a binge read…or watch. I hope they make Reputation a min series as well.
How Are You Really by Jenna Kutcher has been my resource /educational book of the month. I have been following Jenna Kutcher for a while and have subscribed to her podcast and courses and have found great value in her teaching. While I wanted to read her book I was intrigued about the content inside, wondering how much of it would be repetitive to previous content. I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of new lessons, conversations, and personal stories. It was worth the read and would recommend the audiobook if you want a change of pace from the typical podcast route.

Find Your People by Jennie Allen was a comforting book, her honest account of how tough it can be to make friends, keep friends and be a friend in our world is humbling and motivating. It made me reflect on certain relationships I currently have and how seasons of life bring different cycles of friends. The book made my struggles feel “normal” and called me out of my “ I’m ok on my own” trap. If you find yourself in this narrative this book is for you!
We need each other! Sometimes we need the courage to be awkward and vulnerable in order to build valuable friendships.
