Kelowna
Hello Blondies!
It’s been a minute since I’ve been able to write a travel post, but at last here I am. Still only a roadtrip but at this stage in the game I’ll take anything.
If you’ve beeen around the block long enought you’ll know Kelowna has a special place in my heart.
Back in my flight attendant days I spent many of my laypovers in Kelowns, it was paradise without hte jetlage. The only downside is I have become a bit of a creature of habit. I still try to explore a new place or two everytime I vist but some of the big ticket/ highlight items I have yet to do including: Lilac Fields, Kangeroo Farm and Cherry Picking. Don’t get me wrong I have eaten at least my weight in B.C Cherries, I have just never one to pick them.
So far I have managed to get to Kelowna twice this year, once in June before the smoke rolled in and once at the end of July. I thought it would be best if I just made one post considering the first one was quite literally a blink of an eye. We left at 4a.m, on Friday and we were home by midnight on the Sunday, part of this was due to work constraints and partly due to rain. We did manage to squeeze in a visit to Rico Bambino for some wine and Dinner at my personal favourite, Quails Gate. On the Saturday we spent the day at City Park catching as much sun as we could and hopping on a seadoo for a rip around the lake. It was my first time on a seadoo and if you’ve never been add it to the top of your summer bucket list! Of course we couldn’t leave Kelowna without a visit to Parlour Ice Cream.
On our second time through we not only went to Parlour but we also visited Dutchman Dairy in Sicamous, if there’s a line, which there’s bound to be…wait, it’s worth it.
Our trip in July wasn’t much different to the first time, we popped into Frakas and Beach Ave to pick up some summer essentials and spent most of days on the boat on in the sand, but it wouldn’t be a complete trip to at least one winery, this time we visited Fitzpatrick, another one of my personal favourites, especially if you’re looking for a crisp white.
As for activities there’s plenty to do in Kelowna, I personally love the hike up Knox mountains and then running as fast as I can down the road to the bottom. I also went to a spin class for my first time in over a year and it was amazing.
While Kelowna is full of wineries and has a pretty busy dinner scene, brunch is where they fall short. I’ve been to Krafty a couple of times and haven’t been overly impressed with their food or service, I would suggest going to diner deluxe instead, although we have one of those here in Calgary. I would recommend visiting a golf course or wineries for most of your meals as you are bound to get incredible views pairs with great service. Other great spots in town include, Salt & Brick great food and designed for sharing, Smack Dab is right againt the water and Karat has decedant sweet treats and desserts! If you’re looking for delicious pizza after a long day on the boat there’s no other spot but DunnEnzies.
BNA was also a top suggestion but was closed on the Sunday so we’ll have to save it for next time.
