Are We Still Using Food Delivery Services?

Alright friends, we’re here today to dive deeper into food delivery services. Last month’s KMK sparked a great conversation about whether uber eats/skip the dishes/door dash has a chokehold on our wallets or if we’re phasing them out of our lives.
The audience was split, however leaning towards the break-up era.
Before we get into our personal opinions, we gather arguments from either side.
Pros:
When going through a life transition, grief/birth, it’s a convenient option that doesn’t add another task to someone struggling to find a routine.
As a single working parent, on days when there are after-school activities and no additional support having dinner ready for you at the same time you get home helps with the mental and physical load of the day’s demands.
Cons:
With restaurants opening back up and the option to pick up rather than deliver, it saves you and the restaurant money as it cuts out the middleman
Delivery services not only charge fees above taxes, but the menu options are also more expensive than those on the menu at the location, this is before tips.
Now drivers can pick up multiple orders, and depending on the memberships of other deliveries, yours may not be the first delivered, not only having it take more time but also lowering the quality of the food when you receive it.
Loophole!
Certain credit cards now how delivery benefits, including priority delivery or $0 fees. However, these cards can come with some hefty annual fees (as much as $599)…so we’re back to paying to play. (If you’re interested to find out, Amex, RBC and Chase are a few with these benefits).
Verdict:
Most users appreciated the convenience during 2020 as it allowed us to dine at our favourite spots while we were unable to visit in person. however as time has gone on and restrictions have been lifted we’d much rather visit in person and pay an uber to drive us there if we plan on indulging in cocktails, but as for a routine option it’s no longer at the top of our list — it’s only when we’re in a pinch will we go to the app and pay the premium.
