Dive Deep Into Drama!

I’m not one to cling to thrillers or gory horror films, but I’m not always in the mood for a chick flick either these 5 shows have me hooked! I am guilty of not always being able to keep my eyes open either so the one thing I love about each of these is that the episodes run from 40-60 mins just enough for me to get absorbed into the story, but not too long I drift off into a doze. Before I begin I would like to share some honourable mentions: Dead To Me has a bit more of a comedic relief intertwined, What/If only has one season, you can stream these on Netflix along with a true classic Downton Abbey, and the English Game Produced and Written by the same creator, Julian Fellows. Mr. Selfridge is now on Amazon Prime and Dr. Foster is on Brit Box. Now I think I’ve squeezed out as many as I can before I jump into my current top 5 recommendations.

only murders in the building

In fifth place, we have Only Murders In The Building starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, with appearances from Tina Fey. While I have watched both seasons, and hoping for a third, it did take me a few episodes to get into the story. I would say the second season was better than the first, but that’s just my opinion. You can stream this show on Disney+.

queens gambit

Next on the list is The Queen’s Gambit. I watched it back in 2020 when it was first released, but it’s definitely worth a re-watch. The story in itself is well told and the cinematography brings it to life. This is a mini-series and could be devoured in a weekend… or an all nighter (don’t judge it was 2020, I had nothing else to do), you can add this to your Netflix lineup!

the flight attendant season 2

The Flight Attendant has become one of my top 3 picks this fall, I’ve watched both seasons twice and we even did a whole blog post on outfits inspired by Cassand Bowden, played by Kayley Cuoco’s wardrobe…essentially just another excuse to watch the show again. While they are unsure if a third season will be created I think they left it at a great spot if they weren’t to return. This show is available to stream on Crave, and the show is adapted from the book The Flight Attendant written by: Chris Bohjalian.

anatomy of scandal

Sometimes Netflix knows exactly what you want… in this case, they knocked it out of the park. I watched Anatomy of Scandal at the beginning of the year and then again over the summer. Each time I picked up another hint or clue that added to the dimension of the characters. While the season is stand-alone, there’s a conclusion but also a cliffhanger. You feel satisfied with the way things end but still have lots of questions. They bring out the complexity of humans and show all different sides making you realize we’re not all innocent, yet we’re not all guilty. This was adapted from the book written by Sarah Vaughan, who also wrote reputation, which I listened to on audible, but would love to see adapted into a mini-series as well. For this one, we also did a blog post based on our top outfits in the show, worn by Sienna Miller, but more on a budget.

the crown

If you were to ask me a month ago about this show I would have had no response. I hadn’t seen it, not due to the lack of interest but when a show has a lot of buzz around it I become skeptical and wait for the hype to die down. A friend of mine was shocked when I mentioned I hadn’t seen it and that’s what kick-started my binge on the Crown. I do think it’s well done, and yes, I have watched it all including the fifth season that just premiere a few days ago…I had to do my homework. It is known they’ll be releasing the sixth season, and have announced it as their final, I’m intrigued to see how they’ll tie the story up, but for now, I’ll have to patiently wait.

I hope these shows give you some inspiration for the next time you’re scrolling aimlessly wondering what to watch! A few more on my list (aside from Gilmore Girls and FRIENDS ) are Peaky Blinders and The Women in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window. What are you watching?! Let Me know in the comments!
