Happy Galentine's Day
Galentines, that seems to be the word of the year. Guys get "Bromance" and us ladies get "Galentines".
Now in general I am not one to celebrate Valentine's Day, don't get me wrong I love love. However, I would much rather my SO buy me flowers on the 25th of March instead of being told to on the 14th of February. And as ironic as it is I celebrate valentine's more when I am single then when I am not...This years it's all about Galentine's.
I am a strong believer that if you are going to celebrate the cheesiest holiday of the year, you better do it right!
Thanks to Social Media I have be scrolling for a couple of months curating a list of things, and places I want to try. I feel like this list is great for the love birds out there or the girlies (like yours truly).
Let's begin with gifts and treats:
Flowers, I was fortunate enough to win a Giveaway from Rhosyn Floral on instagram. And if your lovely lady is like me you'll make her tear up real quick. If you want to give a little more Rhosyn also creates beautiful gift boxes filled with local goodies.
Modern Jelly Doughnuts...leave her alone for 5 mins they'll be gone, guaranteed.
Lush Bath Bombs, I personally love the limited edition seasonal scents and colours, if that's not up her alley try Rocky Mountain Soap Company for some milder relaxing scents.
Macarons, my go-to macaron shop is Ollia on 17th, whenever I'm down there I pop in a grab one...or two...okay maybe 6! These also leads into my next topic which is Activities, Ollia hosts classes, so if you are looking to step up the gift action, make it a date and book a class! (plus you usually walk out with more than 6 macarons haha).
As I mentioned next on the list is Activities around valentine's. If you have been a super planner and are just looking for an add on this could help OR if you are reading this and remembering that valentines is only 4 days away, this might just save you. (your welcome).
Ollia Classes (see above.)
Learn to Cook... perhaps don't suggest this after she's just finished cooking you dinner, you may end up on next years "Bachelor".
Escape Room...maybe not the best if she's claustrophobic
Sweat Date, did you know your allowed to have fun with each other? be embarrassed and sweaty and laugh it's all good. Plus a lot of studios around the city have couple's classes all week long. For the singles who just want to have fun YYC is hosting an 18+ event here.
For the queens of brunchtime, a Babes Who Brunch event is event is being hosted on multiple dates over the spring including one in Feb!
If the app is letting you down, and the doughnuts are quite filling that void Date Night YYC is hosting 3D Tinder event for those who are 24+ on Feb 23rd and if any of you are between 28-35 you'll just have to wait until March.
If I'm ever on a date or just out with my #girlsquad, food is usually involved...sometimes more than once. I've recently tried out Cleaver on 17th and that was DELICIOUS I've been dreaming about their grilled cheese since I left...so much so when your reading this I'll probably be eating there again! I also have another Galentine's date coming up and we're hitting up Local on 8th, I have never been but my friend is a Ceaser Guru and she says they've got the best ones...So I'm going to see if she's right. One other spot I hope to go to in the near future is One18Empire, I have yet to sit down and have a meal there but during the Taste of Calgary I stopped at their booth more than once. I can't wait to see what a proper meal is like, and If you plan on going for Valentines they have created a special menu!As for dessert I would recommend Ice Cream....no matter the weather, there's always room for ice cream especially if it's Made by Marcus soft serve.
I think that's all I have to share for today, good luck to all you last minute planners may the odds be ever in your favour! And may you be offered that final rose.
Big Love (bigger than usual), thebrokeblonde xo
