Meet the Creator: Kristen Young

It’s no secret that spotlighting local and small businesses is one of my favourite things! This one is no exception, it’s crazy to believe I have known this artist for almost a DECADE and it was only this past year that I found out about her secret talent.

I would like to introduce to you my friend Kristen Young of Kristen Young Art. She is someone I admire for the respect she has for herself and her family. She is raising 3 beautiful children with her husband.

When I saw that she had begun selling her paintings you bet I reached out to get one into my one-day office, but currently hanging in my bedroom. I love stories and always have so I want to know what got her painting. She was generous with her time and trusting in me to share her story. Kristen began painting about four years ago as art-therapy to get her through a difficult struggle with severe postpartum depression after baby #3.

It became a way of given her mind a respite and became a cornerstone in her healing process. “When I paint the world goes quiet and all I see and think of is colour... it’s magical!” said Kristen.

While she claims that her beginning pieces weren’t up to much, seeing her work now I question here standard because her pieces are incredible. She never planned on becoming an artist professionally, or in any capacity. The only reason she pursued it was for healing so it didn’t matter what it looked like.

Kristen admits that she had no idea it would grow into a full-time career and passion... “I’m still shocked at what I’m able to create just 4 years later!”

If you are looking to commission a piece of artwork her focus is on animal and pet portraits, size is up to you, and favourite medium is pastel. However, I spotted a beautiful acrylic landscape and asked if she would do one similar for me, so feel free to reach out! You can find her over on Instagram @kristen_young_art, and if she’s not in the studio then she’s probably in the backyard playing with her kiddos or at the beach in the summer.
