Battle of the Boxes Spring - 2020

Hello Blondies!

Hope you are all surviving quarantine, now that all my Spring subscription boxes have arrived I thought I would share with you a quick run down of the cost, features and items that you recieve. The three I am battling out are FabFitFun, Causebox and Jilly Box.

I have already given each of these boxes their own blog post so if you want a deeper dive into the products you can find it either on the Jilly Box, Causebox or FabFitFun posts.

Let’s begin with the long loved FabFitFun box, this is it’s retirement box from thebrokeblonde until further notice, I have decided to give Causebox a year to see if it’s worth the switch.

Disclaimer, I bought the year or causebox BEFORE these boxes arrived.

For the year of 2019 the total cost for 4 seasonal boxes was $233.09USD for FabFitFun. Each box comes with 8 full sized items with the options of add-ons. By purchasing the year in advance makes you select member this gives you first access to choosing items for the upcoming season and the first to add items at a extreme discount. Items range from home to beauty, however after 3 years I found the variety was limited and I was not getting particularly excited about the upcoming products.

However if this is your first time looking into joining a subscription service this is a great option, each box typically has a value of over $200USD. FabFitFun has already leaked some spoilers for this upcoming summers box.

For the first customization members will have a choice of a Draper James Straw Bag, ($75), Tie Dye Towel from L*Space ($58), Ceramic Diffuser from Pottery Barn ($59), Yumi Kim Charging Pad ($35), Lashes MD Eyelash Conditioner ($69.95) OR Dr. Brandt Triple Peptide Eye Cream (Currently on sale $49.20).

Second customization is between a Michael Kors Passport Wallet (on sale for $58USD..CANADIAN READERS ITS 238 on Michael Kors.ca!!), Business & Pleasure Cooler Bag ($69.90), Hydropeptide Face Oil ($120), Isaac Mizrahi Kimono ($59) OR R+Co Shampoo/Conditioner Television Set ($64).

Third customization is The Giving Keys mini key necklace ($45), Coola Sunscreen Lotion (old formula, new formula is $32) Toms Sunglasses ($58), Blaq Eye and Facial Mask( $29 for Eye Masks only), Dry Bar Prime & Prep Detangler ($24) or Kate Somervillle Goat Milk Moisturizer ($50).

*All prices above are USD

From these three options alone your box could be worth anywhere from $117 - $253 depending on your selections…and there’s still 5 more items to join the box!

Next is Causbox, the thing that appealed me to them way back in 2015 was their mission to have sustainable quality products while paying the creators and artisians are Fair wage. For the annual subscription for 2020 which includes 4 Seasonal boxes is $199.80 USD. There is one less product in this box making however when dividing the cost of each box per item, Causebox is a better deal by $0.14, so it’s really up to you!

I unfortunately don’t have any spoilers for the upcoming summer box… they are keeping it fairly tight lipped but as soon as I have any sort of hint I’ll be sure to keep you posted! What I can tell you is that I was happy with the Spring box and it was quite refreshing to get, what I consider, more useful products. The only downside is that they don’t currently have a add-on option which made selecting items for the box a bit challenging as it was hard to choose!

The last box this season is the Jilly Box, this box is currently a lottery option which I was selected for and from there I was able to select the continous subscriber option, which I am thrilled about. This box left me with mixed emotions I go into further detail in the unboxing post . The one thing I love is that it is curated from either Canadian brands or small shops, this does come with the unfortunate result of a higher price point this box retails for $170 before add-ons although it is nice to know that the owners are getting a fair cut for their efforts.

The Erinn Cardigan x Jillian Harris retails for $150 over on shoptheskinny.com however they do have other colours that range from $137+CAN. This alone almost covers the box entirely!

As for the add-ons they are hard to resist, for the spring it was a limited colour wave of the Jilly Jogger from Smash & Tess, and a candle from Milk Jar which I could not say no too A) because of the scent…blackberry and vanilla HELLO and B) because Milk Jar is from Calgary so it’s really a no brainer! I believe there was one other add on…but I don’t remember what it was.

As for the summer add-ons I couldn’t say no to yet again this includes a limited colour wave of the new Knix swimwear line in watermelon… if you read my loungewear post you know how much I love my Knix. Another add-on were a set of OH SO cute earrings from Merry Mae, another Alberta girl…gotta support, it’s not even a question! I recently bought another pair from Merry Mae which I featured in my April Faves!
