Farm & Fire Restaurant
How I miss travelling, back in 2019 I was travelling weekly — here, there and everywhere. And while I understand we are in a pandemic, and keeping to ourselves is at this point the only way to stop the potential spread I do miss the busyness of the airport and dare I say waiting 30mins for luggage.
As times are different, I have been exploring new places near me. In the spring the Calgary Cocktail Bingo was put on hold as restaurants were forced to shut down, but thankfully over the summer we had a bit of a respit an were able to visit restaurants again!
Earlier in June, Farm & Fire opened on Banff Ave as apart of the Elk & Avenue hotel reservations, so of course I had to visit. And before you say anything…yes I am well aware we’re are six months out from when I visited but I took photo evidence and discussed the dinner at length with my friend as we typically do when we go out to eat.
First of all, if you have dietary restrictions there is something on the menu for everyone. I purposely bring my friend when trying out new spots because while I’m not a picky eater (as such) she has a few restrictions that often leave her with fries and hashbrowns as her dining options…Mcdonalds detour on the way home has now become a tradition.
Not this time!
She had the vegan pot pie and it was delicious, I had to have a bite because I had never had a vegan pot pie before. As a non-vegan I would recommend it as well. I personally loved the style of Farm & Fire, and I don’t just mean the interior decor. They offer sharing plates, we had a tough time choosing which ones to pick. We ended up choosing the asparagus and the forno carrots, the carrots are still currently available on the take-out menu where as the vegan pot pie and bannock bread are not. I hope restaurants open up quick because the bannock was the optimum balance of sweet and savoury.
As for dessert I had the creme brulee and my friend asked if there was a vegan option to which the staff at F&F were more than accomadating. I noticed that on the online menu they have a sweet pull apart bread and that would be my choice especially with a cup of coffee at the end of the meal.
If you don’t know already when I go out for a meal, my friends and I are the ones to close a place down or take up a table for a couple of hours, starting with a cocktail ending with a coffee and everything in between.
For the cocktails, I know I had a smoky old fashion, but I don’t remember what my friend had I’m 98% sure it had Gin…that’s our typical go-to.
Whether you are in Banff or taking a trip up from the city I would highly suggest ordering takeout and finding a place to park and enjoy delicious food with a stunning view.
