Hollydays - Overpacker vs. Underpacker
My philosophy has always been " I don't over pack, I simply pack for every occasion".
And it has worked for me in the past until recently, when I found myself carrying 2 carry-on items + 1 large checked bag, and going up and down the steps of the London Tube...long story short, it doesn't work well.
I thought I'd share with you a few things that have helped me narrow down my packing.
On the way out, I bring 1 large handbag and 2 small roller suitcases. The reason I pack 2 roller cases is because I check one and bring the other on board and depending on how much shopping I do (which is more often than I'd like to admit) I am able to check both and bring on 2 handbags on the way back.
I don't know about you but I when I was little I always heard "pack extras unless you lose you checked bag", however if you bring two smaller roll-y bags you already have half you stuff with you which allows you to relieve the weight from your handbag.
Leading onto my next point in while saving room, save weight. When I was in the UK I had brought with me Laptop and My Ipad...not only was there two devices I had two chargers, I should have only brought the Ipad, this would give up a ton of space along with weight.
I also had packed 3 different types of shoes including heels, heeled booties and wellies, although it was a spring and it was damp I was no where near a farm or mudpits and my heeled booties worked well with dresses, therefore I would of been just fine packing heeled booties and skipped out on the other two.
No need for spares!! this was the hardest thing to overcome...and to be honest I still don't abide by this rule but If I only pack things I love I will more likely wear them and not wear the same outfit 3 times, plus by not packing "spares" leaves more room for treats. If you really feel this is a mission impossible you can start by narrowing down your wardrobe by removing 1 pair of shoes and pack dresses or rompers, jumpsuits as it is only 1 item for an entire outfit.
Hopefully some of these have helped, do you have any tricks for packing light? Tell Me!!
Big Love, thebrokeblonde
P.S I planning on sharing my travel make-up vs. home collection soon too!!
